What is this template for?
This template is designed to illustrate how you can leverage card sorting to evaluate your web architecture and analyze if it is consistent with users’ expectations. It helps you gather feedback on where real users would expect to find certain categories within your website. The insights from this test can help you improve your site’s architecture and help you understand users’ expectations when navigating your website, allowing you to implement a web organization that meets user expectations and, thus, increases customer satisfaction without the need for a moderator.
What type of questions do we have in the template?
The template includes a range of e-commerce-focused questions that cover:
• Instructions: Participants are explained the goal of the test and what they will be asked to do.
• Card Sorting activity: Users are provided with several items and are asked to place them in the categories where they would expect to find/would like to have them, expressing their thoughts out-loud.
What type of results can I get from this template?
You’ll receive actionable insights on your web’s organization and it is going to help you measure how effective is your current web mapping. This includes feedback on where users expect to find the provided items, as well as the ability to understand users’ expectations and, therefore, rethink your website’s structure and organization, and thus apply a user-constructed organization to your web architecture. You can also gather qualitative feedback by adding verbal or write-in questions, allowing users to explain why they placed each option under each category, helping you understand their line of thinking, to optimize the overall shopping experience.
How can I use this template?
You can use this template to assess the intuitiveness of your website’s architecture and organization by having users place locate the items you propose to them. Send the test to participants( BYOU) or use our panel to recruit the right participants. After the test, you’ll get detailed results, including user feedback on search and navigation, which you can use to improve your site’s architecture and structure.
You would just have to substitute the proposed items and the categories, and you can add verbal or written follow-up questions to better understand the user logic behind their decisions. You can decide to allow users to just place each item under the different categories offered, or you can allow them to create new categories in case none of the provided ones are where they would expect to find each item. This is a propositive methodology, which is most appropriate when restructuring your website and, especially, when including new items and unsure where those should be placed within the website’s structure.
